Longing For Spring!

Lonely Arctic Vigil

This sea bird sat on an ice floe and watched the Lindblad-National Geographic Explorer creep past while approaching a polar bear mother and her cub. The scene impressed on me just how hostile and lonely a place the arctic can be — and this was during their summer!

Polar Bears In The Arctic

This shot of a mother polar bear and cub was taken about 600 miles from the north pole. We were on a National Geographic-Lindblad cruise inside the arctic circle off the Norwegian coast. The ship broke through an ice floe and the noise caused the two bears to look up. What majestic animals!
